Floor finish

Modern conservatories are a room for all seasons and as such are very stylish rooms as well, with many home owners wanting to create the same look inside there conservatory as other rooms as the house.

Popular floor finishes are:
Ceramic floor tiles
Wood Laminate Flooring
Solid Oak Flooring
Cushion Flooring
Carpet

A popular reason for using floor tiles is that they can be fitted straight after the conservatory has been erected, the moisture within the concrete floor will dry out through the grout lines in the tiles. Other floor finished such as wood laminate flooring and carpet need to be fitted on to a dry concrete floor to prevent damp problems in the conservatory.

Solid oak floors should be fitted on a suspended timber conservatory floor.

Why Choose tiles:

Ceramic tiles have been valued for their beauty and durability for centuries. In the ancient civilisations of Egypt, Greece and Rome tiles were used as a functional material and as decoration in the houses of the most important citizens as well as in public buildings such as baths and temples. The fact that often when these buildings are excavated the tiled floors are still intact is a testament to the durability of ceramic tiles.

Ceramic tiles, particularly floor tiles, are once again at the very height of fashion. People are choosing ceramic tiles for many reasons. To start with hard flooring is now more popular than carpet and ceramic is the most durable of domestic hard flooring. A tiled floor should last a lifetime.

Ceramic tiles are very safe, they are non flammable and do not conduct electricity. They are hygienic; they don't attract or absorb dirt and they are very easy to clean. They are also healthy and ideal for those with asthma or allergies as they don't harbour dust, pollen, dust mites or cancer causing benzene from car fumes

Ceramic tiles are very comfortable under foot. They have thermal insulation and soundproofing qualities. They are not cold; they actually absorb and retain heat like mini storage heaters. They are also odour free and unlike fabrics and carpets they do not absorb odours.

But above all ceramic tiles are attractive. There is nothing that quite transforms a room like tiles; and tiles will also add value to your home.
Don't worry about the cost. Tiles are no more expensive than many other wall and floor coverings. As tiles last for such a long time, looking almost exactly as they did when new, taken over their design life they are far cheaper than wallpaper, wood or carpet

Internal and External wall finishes:
Traditionally conservatories have been built mainly with brick finished walls. However conservatories have moved on from what they were 10 years ago. They are not just sunrooms they are a valuable and practical additional to your home, and a room which is usable all year round.

We are all different and have different views on how a conservatory should be finished off, this is often influenced by its intended use.

Brick still remains the most popular internal finish; it gives the feel of a garden room, which is what many people feel a conservatory should feel like.

Plastering has become a popular alternative internal wall finish. More people want their conservatory to feel more like a room, and decoration from the house can be carried on into the conservatory.

We always try to match the brick on the conservatory for the brick on the house, although this is sometimes easier said than done. Sometimes a brick is no longer made or has changes colour depending on its date of manufacture. You will have final approval of the choice of brick prior to construction.

(If your property is relatively new then it may be possible to locate the brick type from house builder)
We have also rendered the external finish on many conservatories helping them blend in with the house

Internal Window Boards
Window boards add style and elegance to complement any window or conservatory, once installed all that is required to keep pristine condition is a simple clean with a damp cloth and none abrasive cleaner.

Our range of window boards are manufactured to the highest standards using only top quality materials. A high pressure laminate gives a surface which will last for years and is scratch, heat and moisture resistant, this is bonded onto P3 MR chipboard which is compensated with laminate E backing, the back edge and the underside joint is sealed with a water resistant film.

All window boards are 23.2mm in thickness with a bull-nose profile, to facilitate for cut ends, a plastic end cap to match the colour of the window boards are used to finish off.
A full range of skirting boards is also available to match the laminated window boards to complete the look of your conservatory.

Five colours compliment the range, white, light oak, Sherwood oak, mahogany and rosewood.
The window board carries a ten year guarantee against any manufacturing defects

Decorative glass
There any many different ways to complement your windows, doors or conservatory with decorative glass, and there are many different types available.

• Diamond / Rectangular lead
• Georgian bar inserts with mitred joints– 18mm or 25mm
• Coloured glass
• Bevelled glass
• Sandblasted glass
• Transfers

The type of glass you choose could be one to complement your home or add a touch of individual flare. In several instances we have even created new unique designs to meet the customers' requirements.

Modern advances in the type of lead available has given us the option of using an “Antique” finished lead. This lead is coated so it won’t oxidise which gives a much more consistent finish on the lead than standard lead when it has oxidised.

We have been recommending a different size of lead for diamond and rectangular leaded designed glazing since 1997. The standard size of lead used is 9mm, by using 6mm you achieve the same effect but in a much more subtler way.

Conservatory Blinds:
Our recommended roof glazing is either Opal or Bronze on Opal polycarbonate, which is a cost effective way of making your conservatory usable all year round. However, for the side-walls blinds are a solution to make the conservatory more comfortable.
