Conservatory Heating:

Conservatories are a room for all seasons and with advances in glazing technology this has never been more true. The key to using the conservatory all year round is not to shut the conservatory off from the house. Keep the internal doors open and allow air to circulate through the conservatory. With the level of security in the locking systems and glazing feeling secure in your home should not be a problem

A popular and cost effective way to heat your conservatory is electric convector heaters. These are ideal as they provide instant heat as soon as they are switched on. They can be wall mounted or put into storage in summer.

Radiators with a thermostatic valve are an alternative option. These are more expensive to install but are effective for all year round use. The big advantage convector heaters have over radiators is that radiators can take a long time to warm a room where as convector heaters are effective much quicker. Installing a radiator can also have complications with getting pipes to the conservatory and the capacity of the boiler. In many cases our customers have friends or family who are capable of installing radiators, when this has been the case we always allow for the radiator pipes when constructing the conservatory.

Under-floor heating in our opinion is very good at what it does, heating the floor. We always make our customers aware that it is only background heating. We use the “Devi-Mat “ system, which comes with a complete manufacturers 10-year guarantee and is installed with the conservatory floor tiles. The main down side of under-floor heating is the costs involved, it is not just as simple as installing the mat there is additional electrical work required and an new ring main taken back to the fuse box to power the system. When a new ring main is installed additional work may be required to your existing house electrics to ensure it conforms to new building regulation Part “P”.

Advantages of Radiant Panel Heaters.

The sun is the largest radiant heater known to man and therefore radiant heat is the most natural form of comfortable warmth.

Our microthermic radiant panel heaters, like the sun, generate radiant heat. It is without exception the healthiest and most effective method of creating comfort. Radiant heat warms people, walls and objects so you can feel the warmth equally around your environment.

Many of the conventional heaters heat by convection. Convection heat warms the air and as a result the heat is distributed unevenly because the heated air rises and the warmth stays near the ceiling where it is needed the least. Also as a result of the air being heated the heat escapes where the air escapes, meaning the heat is lost through the windows, doors, vents and especially the ceiling, and this process can also produce undesirable marks on walls. Radiant heaters heat the walls, the furniture and objects which in turn radiate heat back into the room. Radiant heat does not pass through glass and therefore windows are no longer a heating problem.

Radiant heat works almost instantly. Within minutes the heater plaque is working at 100% output compared to oil filled heaters, which are very slow and can take up to an hour to reach 100% output. A convector heater element will operate in much the same time as the radiant plaque, however, the time taken to achieve a desired comfort level in a given room can be considerably longer.
